About Amaco Construction Equipment Inc.
James MacDonald started Amaco in 1983 with the Gradall account, in conjunction with two silent partners, who operated a local Gradall rental company. Amaco opened its doors near our present-day Mississauga, ON, location on Datsun Road.
James was responsible for sales and his partners were, back then, the servicing arm for Amaco. Our name comes from our founders: Ambler, MacDonald, and Courtney. James had been in the equipment business after his service in the Second World War and holds the distinction of selling the first ever Gradall in Ontario in the early 1950s.
We’ve grown over the years with our own staff to handle sales, parts, and service. We focus exclusively on heavy construction and road maintenance equipment – working with only the most trusted and reliable equipment manufacturers from around the world.
Jeff MacDonald, our current General Manager, is James’ son. Jeff joined the business in 1987 starting in sales in a small territory, and over the years gained increasing knowledge and responsibility. Jeff was trained as a civil engineer, holds a P.Eng designation, and has a Masters of Applied Science Degree from the University of Toronto. Before joining Amaco, he worked at a consulting engineering firm for several years in the structural engineering department.
In 2023, Amaco Construction Equipment Inc. was sold to Chadwick BaRoss (Ontario) Ltd., a significant milestone in our history. The change in ownership brought the opportunity for new inventory and additional lines and allow Amaco to better serve our customers. Despite the change in ownership, continuity was ensured as Jeff MacDonald and the dedicated Amaco team remained, with Jeff taking on the role of General Manager.
